The construction industry in South Africa has indeed been facing some unique and interesting challenges since 26 March 2020 when the national lockdown was proclaimed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Similarly, the encountering of the excepted risks provided for in GCC 2015, which excepted risks include circumstances and events such as the Covid-19 pandemic, has now presented a challenge to Employers and Contractors on what is contractually due versus what is considered to be fair, whilst Employer’s Agents must decide on how to contractually hold the balance between the two contracting Parties in terms of their respective rights and the obligations.
VAN ZYL & ASSOCIATES hereby invites you to enrol to a 40 minute CPD accredited training session on the VZA Training Portal dealing with the submission, evaluation and consideration of contractual claims submitted in terms of the General Conditions of Contract for Construction Works of, Third Edition, 2015.
The presentation will be done by Mr. Theunis van Zyl, SAICE’s Portfolio Manager for Frequently Asked Questions on the GCC contracts. Theunis van Zyl is a full-time Construction Law Consultant and Project Manager at VAN ZYL & ASSOCIATES in Cape Town and has successfully dealt with some 2000 construction claims in the past 28 years, and close to a 100 Adjudications and Arbitrations. He is also an accredited Arbitrator, Mediator and Adjudicator.
